Crazy Ex Girlfriend Season 3 Episode 1 Review
We merely have one calendar week before the premier of the last flavor of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend! Information technology starts Friday, October 12. Since the show has been on hiatus a while, it'due south a good fourth dimension to review what happened!
(If you want to exercise information technology the long way, y'all can as well read all my season 3 episode recaps, starting here)
In my Supernatural flavour epitomize, I broke everything down by characters and where we left them at the end of the season. For Crazy Ex-Girlfriend it makes more than sense to summarize the events of terminal flavour by storyline rather than by individual. I'll conclude with a brief description of the evidence's major relationships and how we left them. A lot happened in flavor three, and then I'll beginning with the almost dramatic and firsthand and go from there.
Rebecca pushed Trent off a building and was arrested for attempted murder
Rebecca is Trent'due south Josh Chan, except that Rebecca has moved on from Josh Chan and Trent has refused to motion on from Rebecca. After a failed endeavour to blackmail Rebecca into a relationship, Trent lashes out angrily.
Instead of accepting defeat like a normal homo, Trent decides the best course of action is to murder Rebecca's current love interest Nathaniel, because Trent is far from a normal human being. Trent disguises himself as a waiter at Nathaniel's rooftop political party, sends Rebecca a threat, and then pulls out a knife. Rebecca responds past pushing Trent away from Nathaniel… and over the edge. Thankfully or not thankfully, Trent lands in a swimming pool and ends up badly injured rather than dead.
Nathaniel wants to represent Rebecca as her lawyer. He tells her that she should plead non guilty past reason of insanity, explaining that she is likely to become off due to her history of mental illness (come across beneath). Although Rebecca briefly considers this programme, she ultimately dismisses it and decides to take responsibility for her own actions.
Rebecca attempted suicide and was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder
In the beginning half of flavor three, Rebecca is reeling from getting left at the change (by Josh in the season two finale). She goes completely over the top trying to destroy Josh and ends up completely losing herself. She realizes that she has been defining herself past Josh and that she'south non entirely sure who she is without him in her life. This is a blueprint of beliefs. Remember… before Josh, Rebecca was obsessed with Robert–her married professor–and her angry response to his refusal to leave his married woman was to fire his apartment down. In the aftermath of this, she was sent to a mental ward for a while.
She gets dangerously depressed and goes to visit her mother considering she needs someone to accept care of her. Naomi approaches Rebecca'southward problems the incorrect style. She tricks her into taking anti-depressant medication in the hopes that it will get Rebecca to the point where she volition agree to go to a mental health institution. Instead of doing that, Rebecca intentionally overdoses. Thankfully she calls for help and therefore does not die.
She is hospitalized for a while, and then a new dr.—Dr. Shin—gives her a new diagnosis: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). BPD is i of the almost ordinarily stigmatized mental illnesses. Rebecca pushes confronting this new diagnosis, merely eventually accepts it and commits herself to actually attending therapy and trying to get amend.
Darryl and White Josh broke up simply are friends again
Considering Darryl wants a(nother) child, and White Josh doesn't, they suspension upwards reluctantly in the middle of the season after trying to ignore the effect for a while. Mail-breakup, Darryl dives into the challenge of making a baby and White Josh wallows a bit. He bonds with Nathaniel over mutual breakups, cries a lot, and and then leaves to work at Habitats for Humanities (not Happy Tats for Manatees) for a few months to get away from reminders. He comes dorsum with an adorable dog named Dog Josh Max. When Darryl'southward daughter is born via Heather (see beneath), Heather texts White Josh, who shows up and they agree to be friends over again.
Darryl has a new baby, thanks to Rebecca and Heather
Darryl and White Josh break upwardly when they realize that they have hit an impasse: Darryl wants kids (at present) and White Josh doesn't. Darryl decides to go frontward with his plan even without a partner. He has a few unsuccessful attempts—which profoundly deplete his funds, to the point where he has to sell some of his beloved Native American artifacts—simply somewhen Rebecca steps upwardly to donate an egg and Heather offers to exist the surrogate. At the cease of the season, Heather gives birth, then now Darryl has another daughter (don't forget Madison!) The new babe'due south proper name was initially Hebecca, only thankfully White Josh shows up in time to get Darryl to reconsider that.
Nathaniel no longer owns the police force firm
In the aftermath of her breakup with Nathaniel, Rebecca gets niggling. She decides that she needs to have Nathaniel to court to get Whitefeather back. Because Nathaniel stepped over some rules when he acquired Darry's ex-wife Stacey's shares, Rebecca is able to win. Basically, Nathaniel bought the shares from Stacey in the wrong district, and when Rebecca proves that, Stacey gets the shares back until Rebecca—with help from her water conspiracy/therapy buddy Burt—buys them. This makes Rebecca the majority shareholder, which bumps Nathaniel. They awkwardly share the big function for a while until Nathaniel decides to bite the bullet and share with Darryl instead. Information technology is unclear what Rebecca's abort will mean for the firm.
Rebecca and Paula are on the outs again
Paula has decided she needs to quit snooping and meddling. Information technology always ends poorly. She notices that she has been neglecting her family unit; they operate largely without her. Also, she realizes for the outset time that Rebecca is actually a terrible friend. Paula tries to sort herself out multiple times over the course of the season. She tries to stop snooping and starts taking more responsibility at work (especially afterward Rebecca takes over from Nathaniel post-obit a coup). Towards the terminate of the season, Rebecca's therapy group convinces her that she should confess her sins to her friends and family, so she does. She tells everyone everything, and that includes telling Paula some shady things that Paula had non previously known. Paula realizes that she can't really be friends with Rebecca considering Rebecca will always lie to her if it suits her. Paula effectively ends the friendship, but when Rebecca takes responsibleness for her actions in court, the two commutation a look that may indicate a reconciliation.
Heather is a regional director at Abode Base
After a lifetime of being a student, Heather is eventually forced to graduate. She doesn't know what to exercise until Kevin (the boss from Dwelling Base of operations) sends her to a corporate internship. Heather does really, really well and eventually becomes a regional manager with her dwelling base at Home Base of operations. She nevertheless doesn't really know how to exist an adult, only she and her boyfriend Hector will figure it out together.
Josh doesn't know what to do with his life
To the surprise of no one, beingness a priest was not the correct path for Josh. He eventually realizes that (he's the final to figure it out) and quits. Afterward that, he just kind of drifts. Rebecca changed his life, and even though he is not in love with her anymore, he realizes that his life plan from before he met her no longer suits him. Things get worse when Lourdes kicks him out of the house. Josh has a stint as a go-go dancer/ "part time volunteer fireman" but then doesn't exercise much for the residual of the season.
Valencia and her girlfriend Beth run a party planning business
Valencia found her calling at the end of season two, when she planned Josh and Rebecca's wedding. She stays largely in the background throughout the first half of flavor iii—aside from attempting to start a movement in the aftermath of Rebecca's suicide attempt—and in the second half begins working on her party business concern in earnest. At offset she uses Rebecca every bit her assistant. They practice a party for Marty and Marry (remember them from season one?), and Rebecca messes information technology up. Valencia eventually meets and starts a relationship with Beth, a new character. Beth becomes Valencia's business partner besides, and it works because Beth takes over the parts of the business that bore Valencia. She also gets Valencia to loosen up (and go easier on Josh), which is squeamish.
Greg is doing well
Sadly, Greg does not appear at all in season three. He'south been absent-minded since he left in the first one-half of season 2 to go away from Rebecca/nourish Emory (the Harvard of the South). At one of Rebecca's lowest points, Rebecca sees Greg's dad at a bar; he tells her that Greg is doing really well. He'south sober, and he is in a happy, good for you romantic relationship with a classmate. Distraught and at stone bottom, Rebecca sleeps with Greg's dad.
This is relevant because Greg will exist returning in season four! I'm torn about this news. Greg is one of my favorite CEG characters, but he will be played by Skylar Astin (rather than Santino Fontana). Recasts are always iffy, and while I have confidence that CEG wouldn't do it if it couldn't practise it well, I have never particularly cared for Astin and am more skeptical than I'd like to be.
Now let's have a rush round of relationships (both romantic and platonic) to see where nosotros left them!
Romantic (and previously romantic) Relationships:
Rebecca and Josh—Josh left Rebecca at the change to exist a priest; beingness a priest cruel through, but zippo was rekindled between the two; Rebecca tried to go revenge on Josh for a while, but now he is irrelevant to her
Rebecca and Nathaniel—they got together when Rebecca wanted help getting revenge on Josh, just broke upwardly because Rebecca was agape a human relationship would negatively impact her recovery; whilst cleaved up they had an affair; they sort of got back together, just diverted paths at Rebecca's trial
Valencia and Beth—they're happy and working together
Darryl and White Josh—they reluctantly broke up because of different priorities vis-à-vis children, simply are friends over again
Heather and Hector—they're happy and merely moved in together
Paula and Scott–they're still married only non exactly a united front, though they've mostly worked past Scott's infidelity
Nathaniel and Mona—Nathaniel settled for Mona afterward breaking upwardly with Rebecca; then he cheated on her with Rebecca; then he asked her to move in with him; she agreed, and it was at their housewarming party that Trent tried to kill Nathaniel, which leaves their human relationship every bit a question marker, especially considering that Nathaniel professed his dear for Rebecca
Rebecca and Trent—Trent tried to bribery Rebecca into a relationship, and she ultimately told him that she would never dearest him and nothing that he does tin change that; she likewise pushed him off a building and put him in the infirmary, and so a normal person would probably motion on; however, Trent is non normal, so who knows?
Darryl and Stacey—they haven't had much of anything to do with each other since their custody battle in season one
Rebecca and Greg—they broke upward early in season two because they're terrible for each other, and haven't seen each other since
Heather and Greg—they dated briefly early in the show'south history but broke up because Greg liked Rebecca
Platonic Relationships:
Paula and Rebecca—they're on the rocks (run into above)
White Josh and Nathaniel—they bonded over mutual breakups and are now bros
Gurlgroup4evah—they're amazing as always
Josh, Hector, and White Josh—they're the aforementioned as always
Darryl and Paula—they're the aforementioned as always
Darryl and Nathaniel—they're presumably withal friendly, though they didn't interact much this season; Nathaniel did question White Josh'south dating choices, though; they now share an role, unless something has changed in light of Rebecca'due south arrest
Darryl and Maya—they haven't hung out much lately, but are presumably notwithstanding fine
Paula and Sunil–she hired him to work at Whitefeather, simply then treated him poorly; she apologized and the ii are proficient again
White Josh and Madison–she orchestrated Darryl and White Josh'south breakup, so who knows?; since White Josh and Darryl take broken up, information technology is probable that this relationship is no longer at all relevant
Lastly… hither are some specific things I've heard about flavour 4:
- Rebecca won't be in jail for long, since she didn't actually commit the crime she plead guilty to (source)
- Greg will render, simply played by Skylar Astin (fromPitch Perfect) rather than Santino Fontana (source)
- Aline Brosh McKenna (co-creator along with Rachel Flower) will announced as a prosecutor (source)
- In that location will exist a Cell Block Tango inspired song (source)
- Nia Vardalos (fromMy Big Fatty Greek Nuptials) will announced equally one of Rebecca's old clients (source)
- Tan French republic (fromQueer Eye) will guest star (source)
- There will be eighteen episodes
